How to Renew Your Texas Home Inspector License: Requirements, Fees & TREC CE Course Support
How to Renew Your TREC Home Inspection License: Requirements, Fees & Support
If you have a home inspection license in Texas, whether you’re a licensed apprentice, real estate, or professional inspector, it’s important to stay on top of your renewal deadlines to avoid costly delays or lapses in your license. As part of the renewal process, license holders must satisfy all requirements for renewal and complete continuing education (CE) courses to help you perform competent and quality real estate inspections. The Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) requires all active licensed inspectors to meet specific continuing education (CE) and fee requirements every two years. Here’s what you need to know.
Renewal Requirements for TREC Licensed Inspectors
To renew your active inspector license in Texas, you must complete the following before your license expiration date:
-
32 hours of continuing education (CE) every two years.
-
This MUST include the 8-hour Inspector Legal & Ethics and SOP Review course.
-
All courses must be TREC-approved home inspection courses and completed during your current license period.
- NOTE: An inspector is not eligible to receive more than 16 hours continuing education credit in any one single subject.
-
-
Submit a renewal application through the TREC Online Services Portal.
-
Pay the required renewal fees.
Renewal Fees
-
Professional Inspector Renewal Fee: $63
- Real Estate Inspector Renewal Fee: $53
-
Apprentice Inspector Renewal Fee: $32
Be sure to renew before your license expires as late renewals can result in additional fees and the expiration of your license; thus, causing the inability to legally perform inspections.
It is important to note that in addition to completing the continuing education (CE) requirements and paying the renewal fee that inspectors must also provide current proof of financial responsibility that provides coverage for violations of Texas Occupations Code, Chapter 1102, Subchapter G ($100,000 per occurrence) using the TREC Certificate of Insurance Form or the Proof of Financial Responsibility Form.
